All very true. I just use both STRDBG and the system debugger so rarely, and for such simple things, that in my mind I just think of them as the same. Just one 5250 and one a java gui. I do remember when the system debugger first came out how much I liked using it. Of course I've always been the only pc programmer in an Ibm i shop, so it looked like what I was used to.

The ACS debugger is completely Java and uses the *DEBUG TCP/IP server.
The latter probably uses the same resources as STRDBG does, but the
System Debugger has capabilities that STRDBG doesn't have, especially
nice ways to navigate like "run to cursor" - when I was playing with
this, I loved that one.

I'm not aware of any way to use it with SEPs. 99% of the time I use RDi. But occasionally for small quick debug's, I'll run the one in ACS. It is pretty much just a GUI skin over STRDBG. Batch jobs you can either submit the job on hold, and then attach to it via the debugger, or the debugger has a way to start a job in batch.
