Once the checkpoint is reached you should not have issues. I would call IBM
about it.

You may be told that you need to start using the "ragged save", so there's
an LPP you may need to buy, Offhand I believe it's called HA Journal
Performance (part of 5770SS1). Not a horrible expense, and if your doing
any HA with Application HA products, it's a must have.

The BRMS control group's save while active flag for the *ALLUSR portion of
the backup is set to *YES, which I think is the equivalent of *LIB for user
libraries. With both hangs the backup was in the middle of backing up the
library most databases used by interactive users and the hung batch jobs are
in. This morning it had reached a sync checkpoint about half an hour before
the hang.
