I guess an explanation is due.

up until yesterday the root share setting was Read Only.

There is a legacy Windows application that copy PDF docs from /root/PDFTEMP
dir
and then deletes them.
I've noticed yesterday that the deletes are failing due to lack of authority
and setting root share to Read/write solved the problem.

however I know that this is a real no no so I've asked the venerable forum.

I guess I should create a share for PDFTEMP directory and use this share in
the A/M Win application without going through /root.
