I had never heard of this, so just started to research this. Is this
something similar to cloning a vm.

That link is referenced in my initial email as the only "howto" regarding
cloud-init. Since my LPAR is running on POWER7 hardware, I did run that
command.
I cannot play with the LPAR right now, but I'll be testing the write
command on cloud.cfg tomorrow.

You run these command?:
*How to enable the cloud-init on IBM i?*
To enable the cloud-init on an IBM i machine manually, run CALL
PGM(QSYS/QAENGCHG) PARM(*ENABLECI) on the virtual machine.

Hi all,
I've been playing around with PowerVC after attending a course on it
testsince it supports IBM i and the course didn't cover it, I decided to
it myself.
I built a 7.3 IBM i LPAR, updated with latest cumulative and groups,
including the recommended PTFs for all products. Afterwards I
availableall
the open source packages thru the ACS tool.
Finally, I installed cloud-init as per the only instructions
init's
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/cloud-init-support-ibm-ithe IBM site (
)hostname
I edited the cloud.cfg file and added the line about setting the
from the reversedns (PowerVC assigns an IP from the pool and when the
system IPLs it does a reverse DNS search to obtain the hostname).
Finally I shutdown the LPAR and do a capture from PowerVC.
Now, when I deploy the template and IPL the new LPAR, I find that
arenot
doing any initialization at all, hostname, system name, etc stay thesame.
A lot of messages about missing paths for disks and missing devices
tologged. The ethernet line that should be fixed to the new CMN objectstill
references the old and the IP address is still the former one.
So, has anybody worked with Cloud-init for IBM i?
For my next test I'll add the line about writing a file to cloud.cfg
relatedlistcheck if it is actually running on the first run.--
Best Regards,
Roberto
