Hi all,

I've been playing around with PowerVC after attending a course on it and
since it supports IBM i and the course didn't cover it, I decided to test
it myself.

I built a 7.3 IBM i LPAR, updated with latest cumulative and groups,
including the recommended PTFs for all products. Afterwards I installed all
the open source packages thru the ACS tool.

Finally, I installed cloud-init as per the only instructions available in
the IBM site (https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/cloud-init-support-ibm-i)

I edited the cloud.cfg file and added the line about setting the hostname
from the reversedns (PowerVC assigns an IP from the pool and when the
system IPLs it does a reverse DNS search to obtain the hostname).

Finally I shutdown the LPAR and do a capture from PowerVC.

Now, when I deploy the template and IPL the new LPAR, I find that it's not
doing any initialization at all, hostname, system name, etc stay the same.
A lot of messages about missing paths for disks and missing devices are
logged. The ethernet line that should be fixed to the new CMN object still
references the old and the IP address is still the former one.

So, has anybody worked with Cloud-init for IBM i?
For my next test I'll add the line about writing a file to cloud.cfg to
check if it is actually running on the first run.

Best Regards,

Roberto
