The Navigator GUI uses the host servers under the covers. It uses the remote command server to run programs and commands, the database server to access information from Db2 files, etc.
Just like the old windows System i Navigator used the host servers.

Dawn,

Thanks for that link.

Why does this impact the iNav GUI?
How are they related?

The host server jobs run in QUSRWRK by default and they are the jobs that handle client requests.
You can route these jobs to other subsystems by IP address or by user profile.

This blog posts has a summary of how this is done.

Dawn,

I do run other subsystems, but not for IBM system jobs, only for user jobs.
Can you elaborate on this?

If by chance you had configured the host server jobs (specifically
remote command server, database server, file server, and the DDM/DRDA
server) to run in a different subsystem and the subsystem is not
started, this is what will happen. I learned the hard way :)

Nor by me. If IE were on fire, I would not cross the street to .. er
.. tip a watering can over it to put it out.

Did you try a different browser?

Firefox. It all works fine on another LPAR. Something on this LPAR
has gotting gefoozled. Not sure what.
