Confirm: They do a starttls after initial AUTH.

Since Bradley looked up -97 as BAD_CIPHER_SUITE, I'm positive you're almost there. I'm not really good with this TLS crypto stuff but I'd have a look if there is an issue with PFS (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward_secrecy) or with the hash algorithm (Signing Algorithm). I'm sorry to be vague in here, I know the terms mostly from IPSEC VPN setups.
