Like you, I'm 100% in agreement (with, of course, a qualifier :) )

If this is a new application or requirement I would avoid the LDA like the
plague.

If this is to tie in with an existing application (either read-only or
change to an existing offset defined within the existing application LDA
definition) then continuing to use the LDA is OK in my mind.

I typically run into LDA (and switches for that matter) with existing code
that started back on S/32, S/34, or S/36 and has not encountered any strong
reason to rewrite. So Jon's use of archaic seems quite
reasonable/descriptive to me :)

I'm with Jon on this one. What is the specific use case that makes the
LDA attractive over something else?

And I'm 100% in disagreement with Brad. LDA is the devil's spawn and
should never be used.

It is an archaic construct from the pre-parameter days and is basically an
accident waiting to happen as has been demonstrated many times.

I personally don't, but where I used to work we used it heavily for

I wouldn't hesitate to use it again if it fit.

I'm just interested to hear if anyone uses the local data area these

where it would be helpful to use the local data area, but I'm
wondering if I would step on someone's toes in the process.
