If you are sizing for getting a VTL, and that has dedup capabilities, you will really be oversizing. You know this, right?

But one way to scope this out is to do a
PRTERRLOG TYPE(*VOLSTAT) VOLTYPE(3590) VOLSTAT(*DLT)
Before your backup, just to clear out previous volume statistics. Then do a
PRTERRLOG TYPE(*VOLSTAT) VOLTYPE(3590)
Afterwards.
IDC if you have a 3590 or not. That value seems to work for LTO devices.

If you don't ever reuse tapes then a plain
PRTERRLOG TYPE(*VOLSTAT) VOLTYPE(3590)
Should work.
In our pre BRMS days we would do this to know if we needed to load up additional tapes for that night. Like, if we were getting close to the end of a tape.
Of course, you have to convert that UOM to whatever the sizing worksheet wants.
