You guessed it, VTL sizing.
I have a handle on the current backups.
What I don't have is an algorithm or formula for computing my month end
perm backups from years ago.
Example.
One full LTO7 cartridge has 32 full month end backups, 9/30/06 thru
4/30/09. (I use APPEND for all my backups, so each LTO7 is completely used)
I know, why am I keeping backups from 2006? Don't ask.
Currently, one LTO7 cartridge has 5 full month ends backups.
What would really be helpful is how much VTL dedup storage is needed for
one full LTO7 cartridge.

If you are sizing for getting a VTL, and that has dedup capabilities, you
will really be oversizing. You know this, right?
But one way to scope this out is to do a PRTERRLOG TYPE(*VOLSTAT)
VOLTYPE(3590) VOLSTAT(*DLT) Before your backup, just to clear out previous
volume statistics. Then do a PRTERRLOG TYPE(*VOLSTAT) VOLTYPE(3590)
Afterwards.
IDC if you have a 3590 or not. That value seems to work for LTO devices.
If you don't ever reuse tapes then a plain PRTERRLOG TYPE(*VOLSTAT)
VOLTYPE(3590) Should work.
In our pre BRMS days we would do this to know if we needed to load up
additional tapes for that night. Like, if we were getting close to the end
of a tape.
Of course, you have to convert that UOM to whatever the sizing worksheet
wants.

I need to determine the total amount saved from a BRMS control group save.
PRTRPTBRM TYPE(*CTLGRPSTAT) only reports the total of *ALLUSR libraries.
Not included
*SAVSECDTA
*SAVCFG
*ALLDLO
*LINK
Any thoughts from the group?
Thank You
