Hmmm I don't think I can agree - the web-based install is very
straightforward in my experience - takes a few minutes, that's all.

It took me much more than a few minutes. At one point it seemed to
have gotten hung up, then it seemed to have been installed, but I
couldn't run it, so I had to futz around and try again.

I think the main issue that makes it not as straightforward (and
foolproof) as a typical installer for typical Windows software is that
there is a separate thing called the "IBM Installation Manager". That
just adds more UI elements and more steps for no benefit that I can
see. (It looks as though maybe it's meant to potentially handle a
whole portfolio of IBM software; if there were such a portfolio, the
installation manager might not have seemed so pointless and ungainly.)

Anyway, I don't want to give the impression that it's ridiculously
confusing or difficult or slow. But my experience is closer to Sam's
description ("not trivial") than Vern's ("very straightforward").
