That's what I always did when I used image catalogs. For our single partition system, I switched to save files because I found them more reliable.

FYI, if you're doing a restore to the new hardware, remember that temp applied PTFs aren't restored. We learned that the hard way when our BP failed to mention that little tidbit.

Is it recommended these days to just get all PTF groups into one image catalog and load them all with one GO PTF option 8 as one package? I read somewhere on an IBM page that doing it this way lets the system sort things out for the simplest set of IPLs,etc...


I am prepping for an upgrade from an 8286-41A to a 9009-41A and am wanting to get all groups updated and to the latest 7.3 TR group PTF in order to make sure things are ready for migrating when the new box arrives...
