Agreed. I've got HMCs, and vHMC in my customer network that I force reboot
once a year, just because.....

Don't let Austin off the hook, they will run at the first sign of an
out.....

Subject: Re: HMC memory issues

No way. Re have over 100 LPARs and 5 servers on our primary vHMC and reboot
it when it gets service. That's it. Never had to reboot for memory. How much
do you have allocated?

Well, my HMC made it to just one day short of a month before I have to
reboot it due to memory issues. Not that big of a deal but having to use
the KVM to restart the shared sessions can be a bit of a pain.
I do find the Serviceability, Tasks Logs, to be quite useful in
pinpointing when your last restart was, when you started a lpar, how long
Backup management console data took (1 hour, 11 minutes, 12 seconds), etc.
When the memory issue happened it issued a call home to IBM. They say
this happens when your HMC hasn't been rebooted in a very long time. I
asked them what is their definition of a very long time. They replied that
the recommendation is to reboot it every month. Um, buddy...
