Bit the bullet and upgraded using the image catalog method.  All went well....at V7R4M0!  About as current as I have been in years......can't wait to kick the tires....

So....this doesn't work and I was suspicious that it wouldn't when I viewed the contents of the USB as created by the 7.3 formatter.  There are several files with 7.3 in their names and poking around in the folders, etc the USB install looked pretty specific to 7.3.  But, I went ahead and tried copying the 7.4 images to the USB device after I removed the 7.3 images.  The system acted as though it would upgrade but then told me it couldn't find the media for the correct target release.  So, my guess is there is some metadata that says "I'm a 7.3 USB" that can't be changed by simply copying the 7.4 images to it.

So, unless our friends at IBM create the new USB Flash image today for 7.4, I'll go with the image catalog approach and upgrade that way...

I haven’t thought of trying that but I don’t know why it would not work.  The key is the USB has to be bootable, and the correct format for it to be read.

OK...bummer.  I was going to upgrade this V7R3M0 P9 in style. I guess
I can go the "old" image catalog upgrade route.  I don't think I can
just remove the V7R3M0 images from the USB and copy the new images
in...or can I?  Might try that....

Subject: USB Flash image for V7R4M0

Is there a USB flash image for V7R4M0  I downloaded everything and the
kitchen sink and found this DeveloperWorks reference that says:

"For V7R4M0 it is part of 5770-SS1 feature 5974:    07.04.00 5974: USB
Lic Mach Cde Flash Image"

I don't see a feature 5974 in 5770-SS1 for V7R4M0   I see one for V7R3M0
but not for the latest.... Am I missing something or is it still pending?
