Questions
1) On the HMC activate, would you pick CD/DVD for the USB drive? I'm assuming the HMC will find/see the USB plugged in.
2) If I'm reading this correctly, one method would be to build an image catalog containing the contents, then using DUPOPT, copy from the image catalog to the USB device, is this correct?

3) What is the USB utility you are referring to?

Paul, you might want to check on that. You would have to download the
proper installation images and use the USB utility to build the USB key, but
if you can boot from DVD (CDs not invited to the party) the USB would work
too.

Not only is the USB faster, it also holds 100% of the install image
including all the LPPs in addition to the LIC and OS. I keep on in my bag
in the event we need to load up an LPP at customer location. Now that TR6
is out I have to rebuild it again since there is a new LIC spin out.

Our HMC, (7063-CR1), V9R1SP921, which controls how our P9 (9009-42A) LPARs
(V7R3 latest CUM, TR6) boot/activate does NOT have an option boot from USB.
DASD, TAPE, CD/DVD only.

Going forward, USB will be it. My 914 can't boot from DVD.

Or USB which is significantly easier than any DVD.
