Get it re the need for the tape dlpar
am aware of your support issues .......

BUT
an RMC rebuild on the HMC may be the only way forward - this of course
requires a pesh password for HMC root access.

ref
[1]https://theibmi.org/2015/05/27/hmc-8-8-2-and-sp1-installation/#more-631
as an example of the usage of the HMC commands
/usr/sbin/rsct/install/bin/recfgct
/usr/sbin/rsct/bin/rmcctrl -p
other similar posts are also available - also talking re aix / vios
partitions mainly

so sad to say unless you can hack the HMC grub to escape the
restricted-shell (and really void and form of support) then you will need
the IBM support provided pesh password to resolve your RMC issues.

Yes. We have to move tape controllers from one LPAR to another to perform
backups and/or restores. Since Sunday when this problem started, I get a
message saying I need to establish an RMC connection to the LPAR when
trying
to move the controllers from one LPAR to another.

I've found the same thing. Truthfully I hadn't looked at any RMC info
before this problem came up. I think the only IBM i RMC related info I
found was how to end and restart the RMC jobs on the i, which didn't make
a
difference.
