Had a WebEx going with IBM over a HMC issue (dynamic scsi pair). I like to use my own numbering and not just let it go back to assigning the next available number. My numbering makes sense to me and my BP.
First Digit = server lpar number
Second Digit = client lpar number
Third digit = differentiator when using multiple nwsd's per pair.
You had to click on just the right pixel and in just the right sequence to get it to stop changing it to the next available number.
Very frustrating. Drove me back to the command line.
Hint: This guy is sharp and I used to work with him in Domino.

So, I take it you really enjoy and recommend the new HMC graphical environment?

My sentiments are similar to yours. If there was a way to take the HMC and
make it nearly unusable, IBM found it. It even drove Larry to the command
line almost completely.

In preparation for moving to our new power 9 box this coming weekend (new HMC interface can bite my shiney *#@$), I just deleted all the OPS stuff and dealt with the fallout. For me python was the only thing really being used.
I had to fix up the default path and install a couple of packages that I had in the OPS versions. At the very least a list of differences or potential gotchas would be nice.

Bingo! This is the kind of stuff I'm talking about.

Interesting. I thought the standard advice was to scrap everything in 5733-OPS, unless specifically needed for finicky software (with hard-coded paths or extremely version-dependent code).

And I'm *positive* the advice for folks who have never installed 5733-OPS is not to bother installing it now.
