Sure, if you replace that 1/4" cartridge with an LTO8 I can guarantee you'll notice a huge difference. :-)
But if you're talking about disk, controllers, tape, etc all being equal and the only difference being the OS I can't really answer that.

Unless it wasn't the number of objects but that one user cannot own more than 8.5M TB of data.
