Subject: Re: 5250 to Web Interface / Application Modernization

Our entire user community calls the machine the AS/400 - and what they
usually mean is the interface. They've done this for over 20 years on the
platform.

We're moving toward a graphical, browser-based interface - and we talk
about saying things like, it's not the AS/400 anymore, now you're using
an IBM i!  Hooray!! And even fining anyone who uses the old name - you
know, a quarter in a jar! That probably won't happen, but it'd be fun!

So it's not exactly a specious argument, perception IS reality, I hear
of a newish manager saying he'll never work on an AS/400 - he is also
not comfortable with any computer, so it's probably not really aimed at
our favorite platform - still.....

Cheers
Vern

"several"?! It's been IBM i for 11 years. Tied with "AS/400" for the longest-lived name. (By contrast, it was "iSeries" for 6 years, and "System i" for 2.)

But Booth - iSeries is not the current name - it is IBM i - and it has been that for several years now.
