Re: IBM selling Notes/Domino (and other software) to HCL

Yes, the fixes and enhancements are coming out now.
Support is a big loss though. Huge.

Notes/Domino support has been on a "call back" only for years so I've
gotten beaten into accepting that. But I do miss getting called back on
the same day, and before I've left for the day.
I also miss working with people who could actually access Domino running
on IBM i.

Let's see how long it takes them to support Domino 10 on IBM i.

And the big question always for me is how long will it take for Domino to
run on the next release of IBM i? It's never been ready on day 1 for the
last few releases.
Domino on 7.3 was held up because they had to come up with a fixpack of
Domino which would run on a new JDK since the older ones were dropped.
Domino HTTP always hardcodes some prestart up existence checks. Much of
the other stuff would run. (I do like to push the envelope.)
Domino on 7.2 was help up because of the stupid Domino HTTP prestartup
existence checks. Funny to see the joblog say "5761JV1 is missing". Well,
duh, it got renamed to 5770JV1 in 7.2. They had to come up with a new
fixpack of Domino to support that. Which means waiting on the fix pack
schedule. And, not that any one would have pushed hard enough to test
Domino on 7.2 early enough to get it on a Domino fix pack before GA of
7.2.

Tough to beat other vendors into having their software ready for day 1 of
a new release when even IBM doesn't give a rip.

One thing in our favor is that they skipped JDK 7 and went straight to 8.
I was hoping they would. That way if rNext supports a JDK higher than 8
and just drops 7 then Domino won't be left hanging high and dry. I
lobbied hard for that.
