Speaking of someone who doesn't really know Jack


Speaking as someone who really is Jack, Apache is a web server. WAS is an
application server, effectively a Java server.

If you're doing plain HTML or something like PHP or Perl, you want Apache.

If you want to run a J2EE application, you use WAS.

The builtin WAS that comes along with OS/400 is, I believe, deprecated.
