Remember that not all authority carries forward with adoption.

I have found for example that starting all of the PowerHA Cluster components cannot be done with adopted authority. I use the submit job option with a user that is specifically built to be able to do this task.

compile the startup program with a user profile that has the authority.
in the program source use DCLPRCOPT USRPRF(*OWNR)

the compile program should then be run(adopted authority) as that user.

make sure the program is *USE for QPGMR

I don't know if this has always failed, or something changed, but I can't
vary on my tape library in the startup program, it says I need *IOCONFIG
special authority...

should I use the api's to elevate to *SECADMIN profile, or something else?
maybe this is a problem with who owns the device description?

I don't think I should give QPGMR *IOCONFIG authority...
