Aha you talking about the IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) port. I've never heard of it referred to as BMC but I see now that some are calling it that. Why keep a good acronym when you can change it to another one!!

The new POWER based HMCs, 7063-CR1 have a BMC port, Baseboard Mgt Controller, which allows for full remote management, including power on/off/reset and virtual CD’s for upgrades. This is similar to the old xSeries Integrated Mgt Module. The BMC has a built-in Java app which mirrors the HMC screen and allows full remote control. The BMC port is a separate ethernet port so you need another network drop.

BTW, this HMC is a CR7, not CR1. If it was a CR1 I could use the BMC port to remote into the console itself and open a local 5250 console session. A vHMC would be nice right now also.
