Unless you have previously loaded Zend Server on your box the first 12 months (I think) of support are free. The full version of server runs for 30 days or something and it then reverts to the community edition which lacks some of the performance features. After that you decide if it is worth the extra.

It is possible now that IBM are using more "generic" open source approaches for installing software on the box that an alternative version of PHP will become available - but right now I'm not aware of anything other than Zend.

There is no cost to the community edition so why not use it?

We have a new project that may require PHP running on the i.

I know Zend is one option, however, the high Zend maintenance costs may make Zend prohibitive.

Any other options besides Zend?
