Take refuge in open source. The core opus hews to the "simplicity is the
supreme virtue" ethos that you yearn for.

- Explore the core GNU(nix) tools
- gcc
- grep
- awk
- sed
- Learn to make IBM i web applications using
- PHP
- CSS
- JavaScript

The fun ain't over. Hordes are being led astray from the True Path :) by
hyped toolsets, but the path to simplicity and directness is still there,
it has merely changed garments.
