We use the inactivity system value QINACTITV to disconnect jobs after 300
minutes. But do they have to be at a menu for it to work? Suppose I call
some RPG program that presents a screen of data (like a customer inquiry or
something). Will the job still be disconnected? I don't think we've ever
had someone do that for that long. When they time out (rarely) they're
normally on a menu.

We use the system values to control inactive users. After 60 minutes of
inactivity a session reverts to a signon screen. If the user signs on,
they are back in their original session just where they left off. But if
their session remains inactive for another 90 minutes with the signon
screen showing, the session is cancelled by the system. All done with
system values that I don't remember the names of right now (I'm still at
home).

I don't think this is an ACS issue. We have a package called TIMEOUT
which is by user profile. We automatically log people off when they are
abusive. It is a relatively simple RPG program that sits in batch and
logs people off if they have been inactive for a period of time.
