I've been using QNTC since the AS/400 days, and I find it to be just as stable as ever (there were some bumpy periods early in 7.3 however).

In our network, shares on the same subnet were always visible. Shares on other subnets must be added after every IPL. To add a share use this command "MKDIR /QNTC/hostName".

Authentication has always been a sticking point. I highly recommend IBM's EIM (included in base IBMi). Otherwise your user/passwords must match between IBMi and Windows. IF (big IF) the Windows share allows guest access and the users don't match, that works too (IIRC).

Good luck,

Subject: QNTC Access

Hi Everyone,

I used the /QNTC file system years ago for access to network shares from within RPG & CL.
However, it seemed to be a hit or miss kind of thing. Sometimes the folder was found, sometimes not. I remember having to do MKDIR after any IPL to regain access.

I was just curious if it has become more stable?
Our network user/passwords may not match in all cases, so I believe this would be an issue.

Any opinions, suggestions or alternatives welcome.

Thanks very much,
- Steve
