Check the RSTDEVRSC parameter on your NWSD; it should be *NONE in order for
the optical to work (I think *ALLTAPE would probably be OK too)

Can you see any files in the optical drive or QOPT on the hosting partition
? I seem to remember that if you can't see them there you won't see them on
the guest either (I think of it in terms of a pass through operation).
The optical device will need to be varied on on the hosting partition and
the guest partition.

You may see more than one optical drive on the guest if you have multiple
NWSDs but they are all basically pointers to the same optical drive on the
hosting LPAR.
if you have more than one optical on the host (including virtual optical
drives) you will see a drive for each of them so you may need to try all
the drives on the guest to narrow down to the correct one.
This can be avoided by creating an NWSD specifically for tape and optical
operations - which provides the added advantage that you can vary if off an
on in cases like this to see if that helps.
You won't want to vary the NWSD off if it has storage spaces (i.e.the guest
LPAR disks) attached to it.

So to troubleshoot, check that you can see the files on the hosting
partition, then hunt through all the optical drives on the guest to see if
you can see them there.
