Depending on the job requirements, I would definitely consider using the
resources of technical conferences like COMMON's POWERUp and those of local
user groups (NEUCG, WMCPA and OCEAN come to mind) to supplement any other
resources.

I wouldn't send someone to COMMON or some such thing until they know what
they don't know.



Hence the phrase 'supplement any other resources'.

I wouldn't send someone cold to a conference,either.

But once the required knowledge has been identified for the position,
probably best place to find in depth coverage of IBM i administration and
support topics.
