maybe the fields are in ccsid 65535.

Check to see if you have HEX translation on, in Squierrel it is and option for JT400 driver properities

This is weird.

We've got a rather complex query. All of the numeric fields (the results of complex calculations) come out correct, regardless of whether we use STRSQL, SQuirrelL, or a BIRT report.

But the character fields, which look fine in STRSQL, come out as hexidecimal in SQuirrelL and BIRT reports (both of which use JDBC).

Any insights?
