If you had a successful upgrade on your DEV/TEST partition then why
reinvent the wheel? Lots of things happen during an upgrade besides
replacing objects.
Can we assume you backed up your production partition, restored it to your
DEV/TEST and then tested your upgrade?

We are looking to upgrade our production environment now. I can run the
same process as on the virtual environment, but i was wondering if a
save/restore is an option. Not sure if there is an option to just process
the OS without other system objects like user profiles, devices
descriptions, etc.
