The ping functionality in the new iACS client tests additional features that the older iAccess client didn't test.

Subject: RE: iACS have cwbping?

Hi,

just confused...
for me CWBPING was supposed to check the services started by STRHOSTSVR ( as-central, as-rmtcmd, as-database, as-dtaq, as-file, as-netprt, drda ,as-signon )
servers started on port 2001..2005 were HTTP admin servers... eventually
some admin functions will require the above services...

Have you a document that say you could use cwbping to check for the admin HTTP server ?

thank you

Paul

Searched on your error message.

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1021940
2- Make sure the ports for the servers are open (992, 449, 9470-9476. Minimum ports are 992, 449, 9470, 9475 and 9476)

So rather using the keyword, you're just checking the ports themselves? I

get different results when I try that.

acslaunch_win-32.exe /plugin=ping /
system=myHost /PORTS=2004
Verifying connection to port 2004 service...Success!
Done

acslaunch_win-32.exe /plugin=ping /
system=myHost
...
Verifying connection to Navigator for i service...Failed **** MSGSOCK007 -

Could
not connect. (Connection refused: connect)
...
Done

Watch this...
acslaunch_win-32.exe /plugin=ping /system=gdi
...
Verifying connection to Navigator for i service...Success!
...

ENDTCPSVR SERVER(*HTTP) HTTPSVR(*ADMIN)
WRKSBSJOB QHTTPSVR
Wait until you see: (No jobs to display)
acslaunch_win-32.exe /plugin=ping /system=gdi
...
Verifying connection to Navigator for i service...Failed **** MSGSOCK007 -

Could not connect. (Connection refused: connect)

STRTCPSVR SERVER(*HTTP) HTTPSVR(*ADMIN)
Wait, wait, wait, and then wait, wait, wait
acslaunch_win-32.exe /plugin=ping /system=gdi
Verifying connection to Navigator for i service...Success!

But if you do it by port you can try 2001, 2004 and they will work but
they won't change the text to "Navigator for i service".
acslaunch_win-32.exe /plugin=ping /system=gdi /ports=2004
Verifying connection to port 2004 service...Success!
Done

David & Rob, thanks guys! I guess my brain wasn't fully engaged yet.

As a follow-up, the iACS ping tests more services than the old cwbping.
Some of these new services I don't run, so I'd like to omit them. Using
the /PORTS switch, I can specify what to test. The docs list a few, but
not all of them. I've guessed on some, but I still have two that I can't
identify. They are "Navigator for i service" and "port mapper service".
The plugin for Navigator is L1C, I tried that (both upper and lower case)

but it didn't work. Any thoughts?
