Let me recommend using the MI built-in instruction _LOCK - this is directly callable from RPG - there is a C/C++ prototype in the LOCK member of the MIH source file in QSYSINC.

The ILE C/C++ for AS400 MI Library Reference has example an exampe, and you can probably find others with Google. Maybe especially look up Junlei Li - a developer who has put a lot of stuff out there.

Yes I know I could use one of the command call APIs to call ALCOBJ...

And yes I know I could create a CLLE module around it...

I just thought it'd be nicer if IBM already had an API.

Is there an API equivalent of the ALCOBJ command?

I found this, but it's a bit more lower level than I really want to use.
