And there is someone who tends towards private replies. I think he
explained it to me about some lurker at work giving him grief or some such
thing.
So, even though it may vex you to get a private reply instead of a list
reply it's probably *not kosher* to reply to the list that (name included)
replied to me off list with (reply here).
So, encourage public replies, but don't "out him" on your own. You may be
right that he may be being wronged at work, but you're not feeding his
family.
But I do agree that, in general, private replies should be reserved for
information which must remain private.
Occasionally I do get a private reply from people who are afraid that
their questions may make them look like they are stupid to breath. I say
ask them anyway, you may boost the confidence of someone else in your
shoes.
