I got all the groups, and then went to "IBM i 7.3 Recommended Fixes - IBM i NetServer" (
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1021279) and got every fix that I didn't already have.
I already had the latest Meltdown/Spectre PTF's and firmware, so I applied those too.

I'm happy to report that initial tests are positive. The issue I was able to consistently replicate on my Win7 PC is gone. I'm going to leave SMB2 on and conduct a blind test tomorrow to see if any issues or user complaints arise.
