SMB2 is secure because it's broken and no one uses it. No users means no breaches. ;)

I fought with SMB2 on 7.3 from September thru December. IBM fixed some things, but they dropped it basically telling me, "IBMi works fine. Have MS fix Windows."

The first thing which always comes to mind is that 7.3 uses SMB2 while earlier versions defaulted to SMB1. You could put SMB2 on 7.2 but it wasn't the default.
If you get recent fixes on 7.3 and your Windows machines it's not such an issue.
But the knee jerk reaction many people did was open their 7.3 machines to all sorts of security holes by disabling SMB2 and going back to SMB1.
