The rule as I stated is shown in that chart very clearly until LTO8. At least according to the chart an LTO8 drive will Read and Write LTO7 and 8 but will not read an LTO6. That is the first exception to the rule.

The chart is a little messy because they included WORM media which adds rows but every generation until LTO8 follows the rule.
