I had to read it twice. Effectively if I understand it correctly it
allows you to acquire new uninitialized LTO7 (yes 7) media to use in an
LTO8 drive, format it there to 'M8' which give is 9TB capacity (vs
standard 6TB.) It also locks it into use in supported LTO8 drives only.
The tape cannot be reformatted back to LTO7 compatibility.
So short summary, the old 'Read back two write back one' rule is off the
table going forward.
