Thanks James - if there is a way to stop the terminal talking in
"diacritic" character mode that might do it. If I type, unexpected

clue..... but the Troubleshooting Booklet says "to find out how to
exit Diacritic Mode see your system operator or the system program
manual." I've removed all the keys and cleaned up. Wasn't as bad as
I thought it would be :-)

Sorry; that's all I get in the 3196 manual I have (GA18-2482-1), and there's nothing in the 5250 data stream manual that appears relevant.

And unfortunately, with the exception of a 3180 (that eventually shorted out in a way that caused one of its fuses to not only blow, but EXPLODE!), all my actual hands-on 5250 terminal experience has been with the InfoWindow and InfoWindow II series, and an early (Twinax) Affirmative Yestation (purchased specifically so it could share both monitor and keyboard with WinDoze/Linux boxes).
