No question breaking it up is an issue especially if you get it wrong to start!! Clearly better when it's hosted (IBM i host or SAN) because you can parcel out as needed and you can use non standard disk sizes to assure sufficient arms even when the ASP is small.

One thing I like about hosting/guesting is you can pass out what you need
from the host to a guest as needed. Granted, I don't like to have any

Then there's the age old argument "do you really need to keep x% free of
such larger disk spaces?" I say, yes, you still do.
