Rob,
We'll agree to disagree until IBM tells us which one is wrong. ( if I am,
I'll accept gracefully )
Look at V7R1. The cumulative is not 11 DVDs long (last time I checked 3,
but it could have grown since), yet all the groups included with the
cumulative is 11 (or more by now) DVD images. Clearly the cumulative does
not contain everything. Look at what's available for V5R4 and V6R1, same
answer. When you order the "all Groups" PTF (ie: SF99731) IBM compresses
out all the duplicate PTFs so you only get each one once, compare that size
to the cumulative.
You cannot rely on the cumulative and Hiper group to give you all the PTFs
as of the date of the cumulative release. You need all the groups in
addition to it. Otherwise the size of the groups would drop to near zero
after a cumulative release, and the cumulative would grow much faster.

Jim,
I disagree. All groups eventually make it into the cume. The reason they
are separate is not because of the size. It is because of the timing
between when a group comes out and when a cume comes out.
I'm just wondering if they decide to hold off on a cume until they can get
the latest TR on it. One has to admit the timing of the two, especially at
7.3, are really close together.

Rob, I'm not sure what you're asking, however if the question is are the
TRs buried into cumulative at some point, I don't know for sure, but I'm
guessing not, maybe someone at IBM could enlighten us on that. My sense
of
it is that a cumulative would become way to large if the TRs were buried
into them. That's why they are separate.

Jim,
I know that the MF9920# PTF's are the John the Baptist of the PTF world.
They are available before the actual TR. Is there a marker PTF which is
different than SF99727 or MF9920#? Something I can look up and see what
cume first had the whole TR?

Rob,
If a cumulative and TR come out together it is circumstances not a direct
tie to one another. The TRs generally require the latest cumulative, and
I'm guessing IBM would release a cumulative at the same time, but they are
not necessarily connected.

There is no generic *TR on SNDPTFORD. See WRKPTFGRP.
I wonder if a new cume coincides with each new TR? If so, then ordering
the
cume should cover it. I know they do a resave of the OS at each new TR.
