Oh, and 5250 (and 3270, and VT100 for that matter) data stream terminals
may be non-programmable, but they are ANYTHING but "Dumb."
A truly dumb terminal is something like a glass (or physical) TTY. Pure
character mode, with no graphics, no addressability, no protection, and
no way to create (or read back) any sort of structured data entry form.
The Lear-Siegler ADM-3 is the classic example (lacking even the ability
to move the cursor away from the bottom row), to the point that Lear
even treated "Dumb" as if they had trademark rights to the word. (I've
also used a number of Teleray models that precisely emulated an ADM-3.)
