It's looking for a destination to put the load source. Check your Fibre
zoning or the Virtual SCSI drives assigned to the partition. It's not
finding the drives.

Subject: Installing 7.1 from VIOS
I am installing 7.1 on an 8286-42a from virtual volume in VIOS.
- The LPAR starts.
- It runs
- The green-screen console comes up.
Then it quits when it tries to install the Licensed Internal Code and says
in the console:
*A device could not be selected to be the load source.*
But the LIC is on the volume it booted from ... dunno what to do. Any tips?
Web links?
