"Best" is hard to define, and usually subjective. In day-to-day IT operations (and often beyond), "old-hat" does not count against a solution. Actually, it often counts *toward* a solution. Sometimes
old-*school* counts against a solution.

You seem set on using what you know. So use it. IFS APIs are old-hat for you, and they will work, so clearly that is the best option for you.
