Check the recovery parameter. You should be able to split the workbook into multiple sheets to get past the error.

Using HSSFR4 with POI version 3.8 creating .xlsx spreadsheet
Getting a java out of memory error.
Spreadsheet contains approximately 1,000,000 records.
I believe I need to increase the default heap size for the JVM but so far google has failed me.
Has anyone come across this and solved it ?
