I wasn't trying to be snarky. I do understand the need for internal DNS.

I just deal too often with customers who use host table entries or flakey
old DNS servers causing issues that I have to help diagnose. Then they
don't understand why they can't communicate with cloud servers or why they
shouldn't use host table entries.

Yes, we have different roles and I was just expressing how a poor design on
one end makes it hard to make the jump to stable internet connections.

Brad, this may come as a surprise to you but we often have our IBM i's
talk to Windows based servers and numerous other lpars of IBM i. We have
a few hundred PC's, 15 lpars of IBM i, and numerous other IBM i based
addresses for things like Domino and web. So, no, we are not going to
store all those on an external DNS maintained at our IP hosting company.
Maybe it's different for you with one IBM i and one pc in your house. But
you are the exception. Now our internal dns automatically goes out to
external DNS for stuff outside our network.

I really don't understand your snarky attitude.

"(except for possible Intranet things)" is the rule, not the exception.
