Raul has a good point here. In RPG, when you do a WRITE it outputs all
the
record's columns to the table. In this case (AFAIK), the DEFAULT value
has
no effect (hence the suggestion for using a view)..

Yes, the DEFAULT keyword works as a column value in the UPDATE and
INSERT statements to force the database-defined default value.
