Untested but I believe if you use the %FIELDS() function that would
suffice vs using views

Raul has a good point here. In RPG, when you do a WRITE it outputs all the
record's columns to the table. In this case (AFAIK), the DEFAULT value has
no effect (hence the suggestion for using a view)..
