There's an api. Basically it does a save and restore. Oh, and you're
going to lose some data (like data queue entries).

Are you talking "all data" or just a few libraries and whatnot? For
example,
Scenario one: You've created a new all SSD ASP. You want your highest
production data library moved to it.
Scenario two: You've created a new ASP of larger drives to get ready to
do an OS upgrade. You plan on moving all data to it (especially
load/source data). Later you will either remove the old disks or use them
as their own asp for archive data or some such thing.

I've done a few of both. I have another one scheduled in a month.

If you're going "whole hog" especially with the load source, you have some
decisions to make. This will take a few IPL's at some time. In your case
it is better to:
1 - Do it all at once with an extended outage. A weekend job.
2 - Schedule multiple outages to do IPL's required in the middle of the
process.

I've done it both. Earlier I wasn't aware of just how many IPL's it would
take. The system I did it on normally only allows us to do this stuff
once a quarter so throwing in a few extra IPLs midweek (ok, even nights
are busy) wasn't taken too well.
