Rob,

I've previously reviewed the API, too many restrictions, won't work.
Save Lib, Delete Lib, Restore lib is what I'm currently using.

Previously, I did a production LPAR disk swap, only system ASP01, including load source, only one IPL was needed.

There's an api. Basically it does a save and restore. Oh, and you're going to lose some data (like data queue entries).
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_73/apis/qhsmmovl.htm

Are you talking "all data" or just a few libraries and whatnot? For example, Scenario one: You've created a new all SSD ASP. You want your highest production data library moved to it.
Scenario two: You've created a new ASP of larger drives to get ready to do an OS upgrade. You plan on moving all data to it (especially load/source data). Later you will either remove the old disks or use them as their own asp for archive data or some such thing.

I've done a few of both. I have another one scheduled in a month.

If you're going "whole hog" especially with the load source, you have some decisions to make. This will take a few IPL's at some time. In your case it is better to:
1 - Do it all at once with an extended outage. A weekend job.
2 - Schedule multiple outages to do IPL's required in the middle of the process.

I've done it both. Earlier I wasn't aware of just how many IPL's it would take. The system I did it on normally only allows us to do this stuff once a quarter so throwing in a few extra IPLs midweek (ok, even nights are busy) wasn't taken too well.

Can STRASPBAL move data between different ASPs?
From what I'm reading, no.

5. Move data from units - This option can be used to reduce the
down time associated with removing a disk unit. A unit that
is scheduled for removal can be marked to end allocations by
specifying UNIT(unit-number) and TYPE(*ENDALC). This will
keep new allocations away from this unit. For all units
marked *ENDALC, specifying TYPE(*MOVDTA) will move data from
the marked units to other units in the SAME ASP. To resume
allocations for units marked *ENDALC, specify
UNIT(unit-number) and TYPE(*RSMALC). New allocations will
once again be allowed to this unit. The Check ASP Balance
(CHKASPBAL) command can be used to determine which units are
currently marked *ENDALC.

How can one move data from one ASP to another ASP?

One method
SAVE the library
Delete the library
Restore the library, forcing to other ASP.

Is there another method?

Thank You
